Review of August

Wednesday already huh? The bonus of having a 4 day week! AND the last day of August, crazy.

So a round up of August. In this post I set myself some goals for the month of August, and in all honesty I should have put this somewhere prominent to remind myself of these.

  • I am going to try and cook a couple more new dishes. I tend to keep to the same repertoire of dishes, so need to break out! I’m going to try a few new sweet ideas as well– I can’t think if I did this or not? I don’t think I did, looking back. Ooops! Will roll this one on to September.
  • I am going to crack on with my half marathon training and build up my running– I have been successful with this! I have managed to get up to 6 miles and all is going well. I have got my race T-shirt as well now so that will keep me focussed.
  • I would like to develop my upper body strength and be able to aim for 10 full push ups by the end of August!!- I haven’t quite managed this, I had a period of time where I didn’t train due to being ill, but I can do 6!
  • I have got some uni work that needs doing before I return so I’m going to aim to have half of this done by the end of August– Erm, I’ve enrolled, does this count?! I haven’t tackled any work, but I have sorted out the spare room where I do study and I have made a list of things that I need to do. I’ve got 1 month.
  • I am going to make sure I try and stick to a proper routine with regards to food prep and exercise. I am going to write my plan up on the whiteboard in the kitchen and see if this helps. I know it seems as though I have it pretty sussed, I feel as though I could be a bit more prepared. It takes such a lot of time and effort to make sure foods and things are prepped!!- This was pretty successful! Writing everything on the whiteboard really helps. I’ve also found that I need to be batch cooking more.
  • Finally, I’d like to be 10st by the end of August. I’m probably better off saying I want to lose X inches, I’m not overly fussed with numbers on the scales, and if I put on weight but lose inches then I’ll be happy with that, it’s just a starting point. And that’s less than 1lb a week so nothing drastic- I’m not 10st but haven’t gained anything so am still 10st 4lbs. I need to measure to see if I’ve lost any inches. Although, where I was ill I wasn’t training really. This is just a rolling goal anyway, I’ve already lost 1st 4lbs over the last year or so. It’ll come off soon enough!

I forgot to take a picture of my lunch and started munching it! So here’s a piccie of a half eaten lunch. Today was tuna salad, with spinach, peppadews, olives, cucumber, tomatoes.

Snack was celery and peanut butter, sounds odd but is very nice.

Fuelled with a protein shake before a 4 mile run, this was hard! My legs felt like lead, which I can only put down to last nights spinning which was tough. It was hard but I did it, I said to myself at half a mile I would turn round, then I would have done a mile. At half a mile I said to myself, just go to a mile then turn around,  then I would have done 2 miles. At 1 mile I then said to myself I’ll just do 1 and a half miles then turn round, then I would have done 3 miles. In the end I just thought I’ve got this far I might as well do the 2 miles and then the 2 miles back.  I went a different direction along the seafront tonight. It’s so good to be able to mix it up a bit more now as well. And loving my Garmin!!! I did 4 miles in 45 minutes and 32 seconds. I would have liked to have done it in 36-40 minutes but it’s all about getting the miles in my legs for the half now. I am booked in for next week’s spinning class but thinking about it, I’m going to cancel it. I’ve got my Adidas Women’s Challenge 5k a week on Sunday and I’d like to get close to 24:57 if I can! And tired legs from spinning ain’t gonna help me!!

Dinner was veggies and leftover roast chicken, stir fried in a tamari, ginger, peanut butter and honey sauce (this is lush by the way!!) served with cauliflower rice.

My race t-shirt for Nike Run to the Beat has arrived! 😀 what a cool purple colour- my favourite. It’s even got my race number already printed on it.

We have decided that we’re going to try and get away for a week in a couple of weeks time, around my birthday hopefully. Soooooo that means I’m gonna get bikini ready!!! Any tips for me? I’m not going to go mad because obviously I’ve only got a fortnight, but perhaps some little things I could do?

Is it Monday or Tuesday? I’m confused!

Does anyone else feel like that after a Bank Holiday?!!

Started off my day with a plate of scrambled egg, smoked salmon and spinach. Lots of S’s!!!

Lunch was a salad with a chicken leg. Lots of little Peppadew peppers in it, these are so tasty.

Snacks have been an apple and some almonds. A banana before spinning.

Spinning was its usual sweatfest! I felt great and worked really hard. My eyes were stinging though because so much sweat was just pouring in them!

Nice easy dinner of defrosted bolognaise out of the freezer with my new favourite, courgette spaghetti. I really can’t get enough of this, so yummy.

I can’t get over the fact that tomorrow is the last day of August! I have now enrolled for the new uni year and downloaded my timetable. Busy busy! I haven’t done a great job of tackling any of the uni work that needs doing before I go back, I have however tidied the spare room! It is now a much nicer space, much tidier and there’s lots of room for home workouts now too. More conducive to studying!

I looked in the mirror this morning and my eyebrows really need taming! What do you do, do you do them yourself? I find I always make such a hash of it I’m leaving it to the professionals this time! Am booked in for the weekend.

Hope you’ve had a great day, I’m loving the 4 day week! I’m off to the doc’s in the morning to get the results of the first lot of blood tests I’ve had. Hopefully they will reveal something!

Hullo hullo! Happy Bank Holiday Monday. Hope you’ve had a good one.

I can’t believe it’s been a week since I posted my first giveaway!

Last night I went to the cinema to watch Inbetweeners The Movie, oh my word!!!!!!! So funny!!! Really cringey but really funny! And really randomly we came out of the cinema and there was a funfair outside. I went on one of the rides and laughed so much my face hurt 😀 I am a huge fan of funfairs and theme parks.

Today started off noisily with the roofers drilling and tarring my roof, wasn’t expecting that! I got up and had this beauty of a breakfast! 2 mashed bananas, 3 eggs, all whisked up and topped with blueberries, coconut and ground almonds.

I then went to the gym and did a weights workout. I didn’t realise that I haven’t been for ages! I must have been ill! I felt really good today though and it was great to be back to it.

We went to Lewes for lunch and a wander, I love Lewes because it’s a real traditional little town. It doesn’t even have a McDonalds.

We went to a place called Bill’s, I love it!

 

I had a huge orange, carrot and ginger juice.

I also had Bill’s Salad without croutons, and this was a monster!!!

We then went for a wander to walk it off.

On the way back we looked in some of the little shops, and I saw these little food pots and just had to get them. How cute! They were only £1 each.

I also got some cute kid’s cookie cutters. Gotta make cookies now! (Any excuse!)

Dinner tonight was another salad beast, we weren’t that hungry after a late lunch so I made this plate up and we had that with kale chips (nomnomnom!) and some raw onion bread from Viva Pure

 

The bread is absolutely delicious!! It’s got loads of flavour, which I wasn’t sure if it would have because the ingredients list is so short, but it is so nice. It’s not too chewy, which some raw breads can be, it’s just totally yumilicious! Rob had some and his verdict was that it was really nice and very similar to some tortilla wraps you can get. So a thumbs up from us!! I am going to ration this though because it is a little on the pricey side, but it wouldn’t put me off buying again.

On that note I am off to have a lovely bubbly bath! I have such a great weekend: my first long training run, back to the gym, yummy eats, fab chilled out ness, lots of athletics and knitting! I think I am finally getting my zing back 😀

Long run Sunday :D

Happy Sunday readers, hope you’re having a good one so far. I am so glad that it’s a long weekend, it just feels so much more chilled out!

Yesterday I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast, mmm! I also had a mug of hot water with a huge slice of lemon.

I then had my chiropractor appointment and I’m doing so well I don’t have my next appointment for another 4 weeks.

Yesterday we had our weekly cuppa and a paper in town. We went to a new little cafe and I think we’ve found our new regular cafe. Really liked it, it was out the way a little and was a real sun trap. I had a nice pot of peppermint tea.

We had this really yummy lunch at home, selection of Italian meats, houmous, guacamole, grilled vegetables, sundried tomatoes, artichokes, olives, brown rice, rocket, cherry tomatoes. 

Then we went and sat out in Helen Gardens while Rob did some revision and I did some knitting. We took a flask and some nibbles! I love our retro flask!

Cooked a beef bolognaise with courgette spaghetti for dinner, topped with nutritional yeast. 

then settled down to watch Unknown on Sky Box Office. I have wanted to watch this for a while, and oh my word!!! It was really good, I was not expecting what happened AT ALL!! I won’t spoil it for you though. While watching the film we had some banana protein soft serve. Lush 🙂

Today and yesterday we have been watching the World Championships in Daegu, wow! What an event filled weekend! Mo Farah did so well and got a silver medal, he was sooooo close to getting gold. Usain Bolt got disqualified for a false start!! In his heats it looked like a grown up racing children!!

Today I went out and did my first long run training session, I have never really got over 5km whilst out running and only done two long distances while taking part in races. I was a bit apprehensive but I prepared with an enjoyable playlist on my iPod, and I had my Garmin. I fuelled with 5 dates with peanut butter and off I went!

It was a great run! I did 10k 9n 1hr 6 minutes 52 seconds. I am so happy with this. Every 7 minutes I walked for a minute and I felt quite comfortable. My average pace was around 10.30 minute miles. I did have an ice bath when I got back and I felt really good afterwards. I’m now looking forward to another long run next Sunday!! I did have a massive grin on my face when one of the Disney songs came on!! Had to have a little sing along 😀

For dinner we had these sausages

 

with mashed sweet potato and some runner beans from my nan’s garden. Yummy yummy!

My baby girl has been chilling out too!!

I’m off to the cinema in a bit to watch The Inbetweeners Movie, I cannot wait!!

Officially the weekend!

It is now officially the weekend, and it’s a long one! I only just realised that yesterday 😀

Breakfast yesterday was a bowl of chopped banana, brown rice puffs, PB Puffins (sadly the last of ), some Nak’d cherry raisins and rice milk.

Lunch was a salad with 2 hard boiled eggs.

Snack of cucumber slicesand yellow pepper.

Had Pilates last might after work, and it was an awesome session. I then fuelled with a power protein ball, and then went for a 4 mile run along the seafront in the rain. This was hard, I averaged 10 minute miles. My legs just felt so heavy. I normally love running in the rain! At least I got out there and did it.  I just need to get my full zing back so that I’m motivated to get to the gym and do my weights again!

I was really craving something green so I had a green smoothie in a bowl for dinner, and boy was it green! This was half a bag of spinach, a banana, some rice milk, scoop of protein powder and some Udos Beyond Greens.

I had such a bad sleep last night, I had really restless legs!! Plus the rain was really hammering down.

For breakfast I had a bowl of mixed fruit and a couple of hard boiled eggs. We are in need of food shopping as there is nothing in! Haha!

Lunch was a chicken leg roasted in olive oil and garlic, served with a salad. (forgot to take a piccie!)

I have been lucky enough to be sent a Trion-Z bracelet to review.

A Garmin Forerunner 305!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is my birthday in a couple of weeks and I have sold a few things on eBay, so this is my early birthday present to myself 😀

It has been so cold and dark today, typical British Summer!!! And especially typical for a Bank Holiday weekend!

Happy Hump Day!!

It’s the middle of the week again, yay!

Started off my day with a delicious smoothie in a bowl, I made this with a banana, a huge handful of spinach, maca powder, Udos Beyond Greens, rice milk, frozen berries, scoop of protein powder and a teaspoon of xanthan gum. I topped it with dessicated coconut, ground almonds and some cacao nibs.

Lunch was a homemade spinach, lentil and carrot soup, inspired by Laura’s recipe! I had this with a gluten free roll.

I have eaten a couple of apples today along with a Gingerbread Nak’d bar. It really does taste like gingerbread!

Dinner was a salmon fillet baked with Meridian free-from pesto and some chilli, served with spiralised courgette, salad and Bob the Builder gluten free pasta!!!! 😀 The salmon was so good. I topped the salmon fillet with the pesto and chilli flakes and crated a little parcel out of foil and just baked it in the oven. Salmon and pesto go so well togther.

 

I made some muffins using this Mrs Crimble’s gluten free mix and added some blueberries. Mmmmm!!! I was craving some muffins and this was on offer in Sainsburys. I need to explore some gluten free muffin recipes. I had one for dessert and the rest have gone in the freezer.

I am going for a run in the morning 😀 I have decided that for my longer runs I’m not going to get worried about running the whole way, and I’m going to run/walk the longer distances and then hope adrenaline gets me through on the day! After all, what with injury and stuff I haven’t given myself the full 12 weeks I’d hoped for. It’s all about tweaking and adjusting, and after all, this isn’t my A-Race, Brighton Marathon is, so need to treat this all like valuable learning for the final goal.

Talking of races, my race number for the Adidas Women’s Challenge arrived today! 😀 How very exciting.

I am going to spend the rest of the week eating as much fruit and veg as I possibly can! I need to get my zing back 🙂

Rainy Tuesday! The rain was of Monsoon-like properties this morning, crazy crazy!

Breakfast was a HUGE bowl of strawberries, chopped apple, muesli, brown rice puffs and peanut butter Puffins!!!! Yumyumyum!

Lunch was a chicken salad, with chicken, new potatoes, olives, spinach, cucumber, tomatoes and coleslaw. Topped with black pepper cashews.

I didn’t go to spinning this evening, just wasn’t feeling it. I had the afternoon off work instead and had a 3 hour nap. I have been thinking today that I’m not sure I can carry on with eating gluten and dairy for now, it really makes me feel so sick 😦 I am going to stop for now and explain when I see the doctor next week.

I would just like to say that I don’t always post everything I eat, I might just post some bits some days, just in case anyone is worrrying that I don’t eat enough! I also now have someone sitting next to me at work and the camera on my phone is noisy! So a shortage of snacky pictures! 😀

I just had some banana scramble for dinner.
