My 30 days are up, and bootsales!!

I started (just over 30 days ago) a little health kickstart- Summer Challenge! and I am pretty pleased with the results. I am still a work in progress as there are many of my old clothes that still do not fit yet, but I will get there!!

To round up, 2-3 weeks before I started I was 10st 12lbs.

Day 31 measurements:

Weight: 10st 9lbs now 10st 4lbs total loss of 5lbs

Hips: 38″ now 37.5″ total loss of 0.5 inches

Waist (round belly button): 33″ now 31″ total loss of 2 inches

Under bust: 31″ now 29.5″ loss of 1.5 inches

Bust: 35.5″ now 35″ loss of 0.5 inches

Arm: 12″ now 11.5″ total loss of 0.5 inches

Thigh: 24″ now 23.5″ loss of 0.5 inches (4 inches above the knee: 18.5″ now 17.5″ loss of 1 inch & 8 inches above the knee 23″ now 20.5″ loss of 1.5 inches)

So a total loss of 5lbs and several inches!

I’ve had a fairly relaxing day, it was an early one because I was up to do a car boot sale!! It didn’t go badly and we made a little bit! I made our breakfast and then put it in a tub for us to eat when we got there.

Cherry Bakewell Porridge- porridge cooked with water or milk, almond extract, topped with organic cherry conserve and ground almonds, yummy!

The weather was scorching and it was really nice. We were parked next to a fruit and veg stall and it was just lush!!! Bought these bits and pieces- tomatoes, grapes, watermelon and red peppers.

I also bought this dress for £1! Bargain! I couldn’t resist, it was on the pitch next to me and just kept calling me, hahaha! The photo doesn’t really do it justice. I was thinking of wearing it in Autumn/Winter with black tights and boots and a long sleeved black or white top.

We chilled out in Rob’s mum’s garden for a bit with the cat and then chilled out for the rest of the day! Look how cool she looks!!

Going to cook dinner in a bit, think it’ll be kebabs again but grilled and with some of those yummy peppers! And then prep for the week, bit of cleaning and cooking, bath then bed!

Got to love the sunshine!

Happy Saturday peeps!

Hope you are all well and that you have had a bit of this glorious sunshine too.

Last night’s meal was sooooo nice! It was a Turkish restaurant called Meze and before the starter they give you bread and olives with some feta and herbed butter, then a complimentary piece of Turkish pizza. We then had a mixed meze to start with that had lots of different dishes to try. There was houmous, antep ezme (a spicy tomato dip), stuffed vine leaves, stuffed peppers, yoghurt and lots of other little bits. For my main I had a Karisik kebab which was grilled cubes of chicken, grilled cubes of lamb and a minced lamb kebab, this was served with yoghurt, onion salad, grilled peppers and grilled tomatoes. There was also bread and bulghar wheat (I don’t get on very well with these so didn’t eat them)

I had some lovely Turkish red wine as well and lots of water. It was such a lovely meal and it’s all cooked in front of you as well!

Today has been pretty chilled. Breakfast was banana scramble topped with strawberries and ground almonds

I went to get my trial contact lenses and then we went and had an iced soya latte and a read of the paper in  Coffee Republic. I had a Bear Yoyo snack!

I also went shopping!! Bought these bits from Lush (I love that shop!) The cleanser smells so much of lavender and even has little bits in it, and I just love the smell of tea tree oil.

And these bits from the Accessorize sale. White flip flops, black satin-y shoes and a brooch.

And Rob was ever so lovely and bought me these beautiful roses

I also bought my favourite flower, a sunflower. It also has some unopened buds on it 🙂

We then went to a Summer fayre for an autistic group that I volunteer at and I had my face painted!

I also entered the raffle and won 2 prizes!! One was a box of Cadbury’s Milk Tray which I gave away, and the other was this lovely recipe folder!

This evening we decided to have an impromtu BBQ on the beach. We were given a BBQ at the end of last summer as a gift that is a portable BBQ, we had been using a bucket BBQ up to that point (literally a bucket!!). So we thought we’d crack out this new one, well we didn’t know we’d have to build it!!!

30 minutes or so later we were rocking and rolling and we fired up the barbie on the beach. Here are a few pics of our evening!!

Friday is here!

Happy Friday all! Boy am I glad it’s Friday. This has been a veeeeery long week. So much so that I took today off work as holiday. I slept in until a monstrous 12:50 this afternoon! I must have needed it as I feel so much better now. I even had to have a nap when I got in from work yesterday and went to bed early.

I went out this afternoon and tried to run… and it worked! No pain 😀 I ran for 2 miles, slow and steady. Had to keep telling myself to slow down! It was good though and I did the 2 miles in around 19 minutes. I should probably have run slower but it felt ok. Now to start half marathon training!!

I have had a real fruits and veggies day today, I really felt as though I needed it. Had a humungous green juice after my run. Then promptly chucked in the oven a load of veg and roasted this, had it with pepper, tomato, cucumber and olives.

Then a plate of strawberries, blueberries, banana and apple, topped with coconut and ground almonds.

All washed down with a yummy Teapigs chocolate flake tea.

Yesterday’s eats were very comforting. Breakfast was a yummy smoothie. (no piccie, sorry!)

Lunch was salad bought from Sainsburys with a hot chicken thigh. Needed the hot food!!

Yummy snacks of strawberries and apple.

And then dinner was Doves gluten/wheat free pasta with pesto (sundried tomatoes, garlic, cashews and nutritional yeast)- ultimate comfort

then chocolate banana ‘ice cream’ for dessert. That was frozen banana whizzed up with chocolate protein powder and raw cacao nibs. This was just like eating chocolate ice cream! It was so good.

 What do you do when you’re feeling a bit pants? 

Today’s day off has been pretty chilled. Got several loads of washing on, going to do a bootsale on Sunday, so have been pricing stuff up and that is about it! Nice and chilled, just what I needed. And I got to sit in the sun with a mug of Clipper Organic Orange and Coconut tea, lush!! 

I have a recipe for you as promised!

 

Turkey Chilli- serves 4 hungry people

  • 1 packet of diced turkey breast
  • 1 courgettes, cut in half lengthways and sliced
  • 1 pepper- any colour I used green, diced into fairly large pieces
  • 1 onion, diced
  • Large handful of mushrooms quarted
  • 2 tins/tetrapaks of chopped tomatoes
  • Squirt tomato puree
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • Sprinkle of mixed herbs
  • Chilli- either fresh, powdered, dried- whatever tickles your tastebuds! I use a whole red chili.
  • 1 tin/tetrapak of red kidney beans

Saute the onion and garlic in some oil (I used coconut oil) (I use a big stock pan) and when soft add the turkey breast and cook until browning. Add all the veg, the herbs and the chilli, and fry for a couple of minutes. Add the 2 tins of tomatoes, the tin of kidney beans, a squirt of tomato puree and stir to mix it all up. Simmer on a medium heat, regularly stirring for about 40 minutes or until until the liquid is reduced. Make sure to check the heat and the seasoning to preference.

Once cooked, devour!!!

This recipe is so versatile you can add whatever you want to it! I have added spinach to the mix before now, and you could probably add any other veg you can think of. Maybe carrots, or celery?

I was a very lucky girl today as well as I had a gift from my lovely boyfriend, I have wanted one of these for ages and haven’t been able to find the right one! Can’t wait until my next run to try it out! (It’s an armband for my iPod)

I am going to get ready now, am off to dinner to my favourite restaurant, a local Turkish place which is sooooo yummy. I think I might have a glass of wine as well! Although, haven’t had one in over a month so might be a little piddled!!!

Wow, crazy busy! And happy hump day!

Well, what a busy few days!!! I don’t think I have been this busy in a very long time.

I’ve had parcels galore!

I received The triathlete’s Training Bible. I managed to get this second hand for £5.35 from a site called ABE Books. This is great for new and secondhand books. I am looking forward to reading this.

I won some Rescue Oil! I entered a Zest competition and totally forgot until they emailed me for my address.

My Brighton Marathon t-shirt arrived, this is really cool because it says I’m training for it! It’s a really nice fit as well.

Catching up from Saturday now! I had a nice cup of tea in town, sat outside reading the paper Saturday morning. It was nice and sunny and it was so relaxing. Must make a note to do this more often.

I went to collect my new prescription of contact lenses and decided I’m going to go for daily lenses instead. I was having monthly lenses and I just don’t think I wear them enough. So, got to go back to collect my trial of daily lenses! I bought a dress from Primark- so cute!! It’s got foxes on it and only cost me £6. 

I had my friends round for dinner Saturday night and I decided to go for the full 3 courses! I made a Lebanese style aubergine starter.

Then for the main I did a tapas style meal so everyone could help themselves to whatever they wanted. I roasted peppers with goat’s cheese, made a Spanish tortilla, made patatas bravas, marinated olives, made a salad, cooked a peppered Quorn steak, bought crusty brown loaf and made a dip of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. 

For dessert I made frozen avocado nut cups and served with strawberries. Nomnomnom!!

Booked into spinning 9am Sunday morning, this was great!! Sweated so much it was dripping into my eyes!!!! Stings though 😦 The rest of the day was spent catching up with my nan who has been a bit poorly, and clearing out my Dad’s loft. The loft clearing was a bit crazy!!! Approx 18 bins bags of rubbish and loads of stuff for a car boot sale.

Sunday was such a long day we went to Pizza Express for dinner, we had a 50% off main meals voucher so used that. I had a chicken salad and it was really nice. It had avocado, egg, potatoes, green beans and peppers.

We went back to my Dad’s on Monday evening and we had a bonfire to burn all the old paperwork, and while we were burning I made a turkey chilli. This was really yummy!

I made a rainbow frittata for lunches, this had peppers, red onion and mushrooms.

I have been drinking lots of yummy green juices like this!

I also had a funeral to go to Tuesday, it was very sad but a nice celebration of life. It often puts things to perspective things like that, just how precious life is and how we don’t always have very long. I try to live life as though I don’t have very long, some people might say that is morbid but I have managed to achieve quite a lot and am happier for doing so.

I was back at my awesome chiropractor this evening. She is fab! And I have been keeping up with my rehab exercises and have had very little pain. This evening we crunched a little and she gave me some more rehab to do. So far so good!!

I will be going out for my first run tomorrow I will take it easy and only run 2 miles. I have got 9 weeks to train for the half marathon. I will post my proposed plan soon.

Today’s breakfast was a yummy smoothie. Made with banana, almond milk, spinach, berries, coconut oil, maca powder, Udos Beyond Greens and a little xanthan gum to thicken. I topped it with coconut and chocolate covered sunflower seeds!!

Lunch was a garlic and herb chicken thigh with leftover frittata, homemade coleslaw, olives, tomatoes and cucumber. And I scoffed it before taking a piccy!!

I wore this jumper today, I love the pattern, quite romantic I would say 🙂

Swimming for the last night this evening, back to it after the summer hol’s though. I’m going to do a bit of Body Balance and Body Pump in the meantime! Swimming was fun and we did 50 lengths! T’was good, knackered and hungry now though!

Dinner is reheating as I type and is leftover turkey chilli. Yum!

I will be posting the recipes for some of these bits and pieces over the next few days.

Restaurant review- Aloka Brighton

I was very lucky last week to be able to meet up with the lovely Laura whilst she was down in this neck of the woods. She suggested we go to Aloka Quality of Life Centre’s Restaurant.

The Aloka Centre includes an evening restaurant, day time cafe, treatment rooms, a yoga studio and a crystal and cosmetics shop.

The restaurant serves seasonal food which I like, I try and buy seasonal where possible at home and it’s nice to see restaurants doing it too. The menu was entirely vegan with a lot of raw options. Now, I’m not vegan but this doesn’t stop me from loving vegan food! And especially raw vegan food! I get quite frustrated when people insist on labelling us as this or that. Anyhoo,

This was the restaurant, we had a lovely table by the window. It had such a nice feel to it and I certainly felt very comfortable there. It had a lovely clean interior…

Once we had ordered we were given a raw amuse bouche of seaweed, topped with grated apple and daikon and a gooseberry…

This was really nice. I have never had seaweed before in this manner and I would definitely try it again. Then came our starter, we both ordered the same. This was a raw spicy carrot houmous with raw crackers for dipping…

This was totally lush!!! The carrot houmous was really moussy and the crackers were just perfect. A dehydrator was on my wish list anyway and has now been moved towards the top of the list! I’d love to be able to make crackers like this. I could quite happily have eaten a whole bowl of this carrot moussse-dip-houmous thing for my main!

For our mains Laura ordered the Zen Buddha Bowl which consisted of sticky brown rice topped with roast hokkadio squash, steamed nettle, marinaded seaweed, tender stem broccoli, diakon and beetroot pickle and roasted lotus root chips. It also came with a bowl of barley miso broth with ginger, spinach, black sesame seeds and silken tofu…

Laura said this was really yummy,  I quote “This was just out of this world delicious, the mix of unusual and exotic flavours was so good!”

I ordered the completely raw Botanical Living Special…

This was so nice. There was a raw cracker, the tomato was stuffed. There was beetroot, olives, mushrooms, courgette. It was just so nice and so filling. And just look at the presentation! Everything was so beautifully presented.

And we couldn’t not have dessert, I mean just look at this…

How could you turn this down!! It was raw vegan chocolate mint cheesecake. It was just so amazingly beautiful. Quite possibly the nicest dessert I have *ever* had!! We were quite literally speechless whilst eating this. It was perfect and not sickly, and so creamy yet crunchy. Total yum! It was gluten free, dairy free, raw and sugar free! And you would never have guessed.

The whole meal including drinks and a well-deserved tip came to £30 each which, considering I could not eat another thing, I thought was such good value for money. The waitress was so nice and so knowledgeablem it made a refreshing change.

This was such a great meal and I will definitely be returning, it was quite possibly one of the best meals I have ever had, and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Trying out new recipes!

What has happened to our lovely summer?! It was only a couple of weeks ago it was so hot I got sunburned during my triathlon, and now I’m wearing jumpers at work!! Crazy! It will probably snow tomorrow 😀

Breakfast was a luscious smoothie in a bowl! This was made from frozen banana, frozen mixed berries, maca powder, coconut oil, huge handful of spinach and almond milk. Had this with a mug of lemon hot water.

Lunch was spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, smoked salmon, boiled egg and it was supposed to have some lamb meatball/kofte things with it but I had left them in the fridge at home!! Fail!

Yummy strawberries and grapes that someone had brought in because it was their birthday, along with loooooads of cakes, but I didn’t have one of those!

Had a pilates class before a quick bash on the stationary bike for 10 minutes. I love pilates, really works my core and I find it helps with my back pain too because we do a lot of full body stretching. Walked home along the seafront, I am so lucky to live so close to the sea, I love it.

Dinner was a new recipe that I’ve never tried before- Holiday Frittata. This is from Dax Moy’s Original ED Cookbook which can be bought from the link. I had this served with salad and it was really nice, I think next time I might add some chilli. There’s also enough left to have for lunch tomorrow.

 

 

Ingredients

*½ medium onion, minced- I used a whole red onion
*4 medium cloves garlic, chopped- I only used 2
*2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped- I used 1 tablespoon of dried
*¼ lb ground organic lamb or turkey (free range)- I used organic lamb mince
*2 tablespoons butter- I used 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
*2 cups rinsed and finely chopped kale, (stems removed)
*2 whole eggs- I used 5 whole eggs
*3 egg whites
*sea salt and black pepper to taste
Directions:
Preheat the grill on low. Heat half the oil in a frying pan.
Sauté onion over medium heat, for about 3 minutes, stirring often. Add garlic, sage, ground lamb or turkey, and cook for another 3 minutes on medium heat, breaking up clumps. Add kale and the other half of the oil. Reduce heat to low and continue to cook covered about 5 more minutes. Season with salt, pepper and mix. Beat eggs, season with a pinch of salt and pepper, and pour on top of mixture evenly. Cook on low for another 2 minutes without stirring. Put under the grill and cook until golden brown.

We had dessert too! Banana ice cream with apple muffins! The banana ice cream is simply frozen banana whizzed up in a food processor with whatever you like!

The muffins were this recipe, again from Dax Moy’s ED Cookbook  (makes six muffins)
Ingredients
*1 cup mashed banana

*¾ cup fresh-squeezed orange juice I used apple juice and 200ml
*1 tablespoon orange zest apple peel
*2 tablespoons olive oil I used coconut oil
*1 ¼ cup rice flour I used a mix of ground almonds and coconut flour
*1 ½ teaspoons baking powder- I forgot this!!

Directions

In large bowl mix, bananas, orange zest apple peel, orange juice apple juice, and oil.

Add flour and baking powder. Blend well.

Fill six 2 1/2 inch nonstick muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Turn out onto a wire rack to cool.

 

These were nice! Very sweet though for something which has no sugar. It is more cakey than muffiny but really nice!! I will experiment further with the flour mixture and baking powder next time might help, d’oh!

Do you think if I eat too much spinach I’ll turn into it or turn green?! I have just realised that everything I have eaten today has had spinach in it!

I think I might have a bath tonight, it’s just feeling quite wintery so bath and PJs I think!!
